Where to find it
In the app, open the account and go to the Dashboard. The Sales card is the first in the results row and follows the period selected at the top of the screen.
How to read the card
| What you see | What it means |
|---|---|
| Big number | Total sales for the period (the gross amount, before any returns). |
| $X without ads · $Y from ads | How much of your sales came organically and how much came from sponsored ads. |
| Net of returns: $Z | Sales for the period minus revenue refunded to buyers in the same period. |
| N returns in the period: −$W · view returns | How many returns happened and how much revenue they reversed. The link opens the Returns screen for the same period. |
What gets deducted
Click the i next to the returns notice to see the full math:
- Units returned by buyers in the period.
- Revenue refunded: the amount that went back to the buyer.
- Referral fee refunded by Amazon: when the buyer is refunded, Amazon returns the referral fee but keeps part of it as a refund administration fee. The card adds back 80% of the referral fee to your results (check Seller Central for current fees).
- Cost of units that came back sellable: if the product returned in sellable condition, it goes back to inventory and its cost isn't a loss.
- Tax recovered on the reversed sale.
Amazon's fulfillment fee (FBA) isn't refunded on a return, so it stays as a cost.
Returns count on the date they happen
A return is counted on the day it happened, not on the day of the original sale. That makes each day's result reflect what actually came in and went out.
An example: one day you sold $1,000 at a 20% margin, so $200 in profit. That same day, a buyer returned a $500 order sold weeks earlier. The return takes $500 out of revenue and only part of it comes back (the refunded referral fee, the tax and, if the product came back sellable, its cost). The day doesn't close with $200 in profit: it closes negative. Before, that day looked profitable; now the dashboard shows reality.
When the deduction doesn't show
To deduct returns, EcomVision uses Amazon's returns report. If the account didn't authorize the Fulfillment permission in the Amazon connection, or if you ship orders yourself (FBM, without Amazon's fulfillment), the card shows a notice that returns couldn't be deducted. In that case, the amount shown is gross. To fix it, authorize Fulfillment in Integrations.
Action plan
- Compare: look at the gap between total sales and net. A big gap needs attention.
- Open returns: click view returns to go to the screen with the same period.
- Find the product: see which products come back most and why. Reasons like "not as described" usually point to a copy or image fix.
- File for reimbursement: if a product was refunded and didn't come back to inventory, or came back damaged by the warehouse, Amazon may reimburse it. See how in Spreadsheet for Amazon Support.
