What lead time is

It is the number of days between ordering from the supplier (or shipping the batch) and the stock becoming available at FBA. The longer the lead time, the earlier you have to restock so you do not run out.

How to set it

  1. In the menu, open Finance › Costs.
  2. On the product's card, click Edit cost. The product panel opens on the right.
  3. Fill in Lead time (days) with a whole number of days, from 0 to 365. Example: 45. Hover the ⓘ next to the field name for the explanation.
  4. Click Save costs.

Shortcut: on the Logistics / Shipments screen, Restock tab, the Set lead time button on the product's row already opens its panel in Costs.

The Lead time (days) field in the product panel, in Costs. Empty, the screen shows no lead time (uses 30). Demo account, fictional data.

Where your timing is used

  • Shipment suggestion (Logistics / Shipments): the math is the product's sales speed multiplied by the lead time plus the target coverage, minus the stock available and what is already on the way. The result is the Suggested shipment, and Ship by is the deadline to dispatch without running out.
  • Inventory Report: the Restock in (days) column compares the stock coverage with the lead time and shows in how many days you must start restocking. It turns red at 7 days or less.

What if I don't set it?

Without a lead time, the shipment suggestion uses the 30-day default, and the screen marks that value with an asterisk (*). In the Inventory Report, a product without a lead time shows “—” in the Restock in (days) column. Setting your real timing removes the asterisk and makes the suggestion closer to your supplier.

An example with numbers

Suppose a product sells 10 units a day, with a 30-day target coverage and no stock available or on the way:

  • With the 30-day default: 10 × (30 + 30) = 600 units.
  • With your real 45-day lead time: 10 × (45 + 30) = 750 units.

The difference, 150 units, is the stock you would be missing if the suggestion kept using the default. The numbers are only illustrative.
